It’s All About Tortitude!

Tortitude FC

One of the most beautiful cats ever to be part of my life was a tortie named Muffin. She was kind and gentle and had the softest silkiest paws. And the biggest heart. We found her abandoned at a hot springs resort and naturally brought her home… And when we moved to America, she came too…

Cat expert Ingrid King’s new book Tortitude: The BIG book of Cats with BIG Attitude is a wonderful tribute to all tortoiseshell cats. King, an award-winning blogger on her popular site The Conscious Cat has lived with quite a few torties including her incumbent felines Allegra and Ruby who run her office and her life.

Her book is an informative and fun easy read. Torties, just like tabbies are not a cat breed. Tortoiseshell describes a distinctive coloring, a wonderful patchwork blend of black, brown, amber, cinnamon and chose. And as King spells out , “The term ‘tortoiseshell’ is used for cats with brindled coats with very few or no white markings as opposed to calicos who are tri-colored felines with larger areas of white fur.”

Apart from detailing the genetics for cats with fur of such colors, the book features lovely photographs of torties with tortitude along with wonderful cat saying and pay homage to cats in general like the famous Colette quote. “Time spent with cats is never wasted.”

If you love torties, this book is a must have for your bookshelf. I am thrilled to have it on mine. It makes a great gift too!
