Pets Win Big At This Year’s Oscars

Oscars gift bags are usually chock full of expensive, luxury goodies (“glamping” trips, mind control sessions, spa treatments and more!) in the hope that celebrities might use and endorse the products they receive. But for the second year in a row, nominees in top categories will receive a certificate for 10,000 meals (that’s more than $6K worth of pet food) to donate to the shelter or rescue of the celebrity’s choice!
Halo, Purely for Pets which is co-owned by Oscars host Ellen DeGeneres is doing something completely new and bringing pet philanthropy to the Oscars swag bags. For the infamous $160,000 “Everybody Wins at the Oscars” bag that goes to the non-winning nominees in the 5 top categories, Halo is gifting a certificate for a 10,000 meal donation to the celebrities’ shelter or rescue of choice, courtesy of Halo and Freekibble.com, the site started by eighteen-year-old Mimi Ausland when she was 11 years old, to help feed the homeless dogs and cats at her local animal shelter.
Last year, top celebrities like Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Barkhad Abdi and June Squibb took advantage of the donation for their favorite shelters. Los Angeles-based shelters received donations on behalf of the nominees as well. In total, Halo and Freekibble.com donated 200,000 meals on behalf of Oscar nominees.
“We know so many celebrities are advocates for homeless animals like we are,” said David Yaskulka, Halo’s vice president of marketing communications. “We’re excited to feed it forward to shelters on behalf of the stars!”
With the help of Freekibble’s 500,000 loyal monthly followers, they have donated 13.6 million nutritious meals to over 200 shelters, rescues and food-banks across the country. Freekibble.com works with Halo, Purely For Pets® to distribute the pet food to all the animal shelters they are assisting. Freekibble is played in 137 countries.
I will be sitting on the couch with my favorite fur kids to see who wins…
