Crash Test Doggie Gets Bone of Honor From The Smithsonian

MAX, Sleepypod’s first crash test dog, is a crash test hero in the new Smithsonian Channel documentary, CRASH TEST HEROES: THE DUMMY REVOLUTION.

According to the promo for the documentary the footage covers a variety of crash test dummies that have been rammed, beaten, dropped, run over, and even decapitated, all in the name of automotive safety. The film tracks the evolution of the crash test dummy, one spectacular car wreck at a time. It examines each member of the dummy family tree, from 1948’s Thin Man, the grandfather of them all, to 1976’s industry standard Hybrid III, to today’s THOR, the $750,000 god of safety. It also highlights recent crash test experiments to show how, even decades later, these heroes of the highway show no signs of slowing down.

Sleepypod have crash-tested both their dog harnesses and their carriers, which are made from ballistic nylon. The company has just debuted the Clickit Sport dog safety harness. The new design makes it light and easy to use, and is the result of a two-and-half–year engineering effort by Sleepypod’s design team. A patent pending Infinity Loop design eliminates the need for strength-rated, steel hardware. This Infinity Loop webbing design, in combination with a padded vest, work together to distribute and reduce damaging forces that can cause injury. The Clickit Sport comes with three points of contact for the most advanced pet safety restraint technology. The three points of contact reduce forward and lateral movement in the event of a collision or sudden stop, protecting a pet that can become a deadly missile that potentially endangers human passengers.

Available in small, medium and large sizes, these sizes are determined by chest measurement. An extra large harness is undergoing final safety tests and Sleepypod plans to offer this harness before the end of the year.

Sleepypod has been dedicated to pet safety in autos since 2007. I applaud a company that doesn’t compromise our pets’ safety.
